Everyone, regardless of financial status or zip code, deserves to live among trees. Tree canopy provides social, environmental, and economic benefits to communities and should not be reserved only for the privileged few. Project CommuniTree subsidizes the cost of growing potted trees at our tree Nursery and arboretum in St. Louis County’s Creve Coeur Park. The 3-gallon saplings are offered free of charge to public and nonprofit partners who plant and maintain this new community investment. The program distributes over 10,000 trees to more than 250 partners every year and mobilizes more than 3,000 volunteers to participate in the tree planting process. Click here for a list of the 50+trees we grow. Availability varies by year.

Steps for applying for free trees
- 1. Click Here Review Project CommuniTree Program Criteria & Checklist to assist you in properly planning for your project.
- 2. View available tree species and their descriptions, then make selections based on what is best for your planting project.
- 3. Once you have selected your trees, you will be prompted to fill out the online application describing the project details, stewardship plan, and contact information.
- 4. After the application is digitally submitted Forest ReLeaf staff will review the request, approve the order, and reach out to set up a time for pick up. All trees must be picked up from the Nursery and Arboretum in St. Louis County (unless otherwise specified).
- 5. Tree giveaways are based on many factors including our schedule and weather; each season’s timeline varies. We deal with a very high volume of applicants each year and appreciate your patience. We highly recommend not selecting a planting date/event until we contact you to confirm your order.
